Inspired in part by
luckykitty, I have decided to make a short list of the major themes in my writing, or at least those I can think of at the moment. Examples are included! Ah, fun for the whole family! Enjoy.
--There is another world.
[Orange Pekoe, Tales of Pirate Jennio]
--There is no time.
["Perth", Accidental Rogues]
--The impermanence/fluidity of gender.
["Immortality", "The Velvet Box", "The Unspeakable", Orange Pekoe, Accidental Rogues, Angora Fix]
--The magnificent horror of death.
[Accidental Rogues, Orange Pekoe, Angora Fix]
--The impermanence of death.
[Accidental Rogues, Orange Pekoe, Angora Fix, "Jump"]
--The reality of mythology.
[Orange Pekoe]
-- The reality of dreams.
[Angora Fix, Orange Pekoe]
--It's hard to get by in this world.
[Accidental Rogues, I, Private Eye]
--The triumph of silliness over seriousness.
[I, Private Eye]
--Life's a funny thing, isn't it?
[Absolutely everything I've ever written.]

Date: 2003-11-09 08:28 pm (UTC)i thought of another theme for my gloom-and-doom trend. "you may be in love... but you're gonna have to pay for it and it's gonna suck, muahahahahahah!" -- every story i've every written, up to and including Amber

Date: 2003-11-09 08:35 pm (UTC)ooh, that's a good theme. i like that one. i think i might have dabbled in it myself now and then. whenever i try and write about love, it somehow ends up all twisted and angsty!
that's why i like your stories so much. gloom & doom warm my cold little heart.
i really liked amber. i hope you're able to continue it someday! ah, but i know how it can go sometimes...

Date: 2003-11-10 01:49 pm (UTC)er, whoops. i get a little megalomaniacal sometimes. pardon.
i hope that you are able to continue it. it's really a good story. i want to find out what happens. of course, understand if it takes you a while. i feel like i must have a hundred unfinished stories lyng around.
The Triumph of Silliness over Seriousness
Date: 2003-11-10 07:14 am (UTC)Hmmm. The Magnificent Horror of death... interesting. Do you have certain ways you tend to depict death, you find?
Re: The Triumph of Silliness over Seriousness
Date: 2003-11-10 01:53 pm (UTC)well, i very rarely kill a character. but sometimes they court death, yet are repulsed by it. and sometimes they rise from the dead or their death is metaphorical or ambiguous! i suppose i'd have to give you some textual examples. or else think it out some more...
